You're right.... that was a big patch, but it was a good patch too. I liked the modular work you did in rearranging the code. Nice. I've applied the patch, with only a few minor tweaks (which you can see in the git commits). I think the GUI safeguards in general need more testing though. For example, if a backup is going, you can use File | Quit with no warning popping up. Things like that probably need to be nailed down a bit more, but otherwise, I like it a lot.
