Although I've progressed with my installations to the point where I can do
barrybackup on both systems -- Fedora 12 and Ubuntu 9.04, I still haven't
succeeded to get a working connection on either:

1) On Fedora 12 I can now do "pppd call barry-verizon" (only as root). The
result on the screen is what looks like a successful dialup, with issued IP
addresses, including local, remote, DNS, etc. No apparent errors.

But no data gets transferred!

http does not respond, ssh login request just hangs -- symptoms similar to an
existing connection that's blocked by a firewall somewhere....

2) On Ubuntu I have no clue what the procedure should be: I did "pppob call
barry-verizon" and seriously hung up my terminal (where Ctrl+C doesn't kill
it). Is there a "pppd" for Ubuntu??

So, I haven't even gone as far on the ubuntu as on the fedora

please help!

TIA

andrew
