This is a good sign. It's probably just the default route that needs
to be updated.

In most cases, adding "replacedefaultroute" to the ppp options will do fine.

Don't call pppob directly. :-) It just gives you access to the AT modem
interface.
There is a pppd on Ubuntu... it is in the "ppp" package.
