Hi Everyone:

I am in need of technical assistance with my home computer. It shut down all
by itself and keeps cycling through the start up process. It tells me Windows
(XP for Home) did not start successfully, and offers me options for starting
Windows, none of which work The computer displays the Windows start up screen,
then goes black for a few seconds. After that, something flashes on the screen
and the computer restarts. I was able to disable the auto restart and saw this
on the screen:

STOP:  C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\systemRoot\System32\config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further
assistance.

So, is this something salvagable, or should I be looking for a new computer?

Thanks!
Dave
