Generally speaking, sample code is better than nifty ideas. Regarding
BBDB's file storage format, please read the list archives on the
subject; it's been heavily discussed in the past, and the short answer
is "no, it's not changing anytime soon". If you find bugs (such as the
display bugs you mention with the contributed code) at least detail
them here or perhaps contact the author of the contributed
code. Bottom line, though, is that I think suggestions make wonderful
reading but I'm generally not inclined to do anything without at least
a framework of sample code to illustrate the point.
