There is a hierarchy of settings which may be affecting the outcome.
Global Preference
Per Language Setting
State Setting (per document setting)
In "Preferences: Text Files" if you have "Honor saved state" and
"Option settings" enabled, the per file state settings will have
highest priority.
Next the per language options, and lastly the global preference.
You can choose "Text Options" from the Edit menu to adjust the
settings for an individual document at any time.
