Me, too. Slow typing and hesitation when auto-typing with a third party program.
I went in to preferences and turned off everything that was going on behind the scenes, especially "Check spelling as you type" under "Editor Defaults". There were a few others, like "Balance while typing", anything with "Auto" before it, and "Use Emacs key bindings" under "Editing:Keyboard". There might have been others...
Anyway, that sped things up appreciably. I use TypeIt4Me for lots of repeated tags and code, and it was really herky-jerky and hesitant in 8.5. After turning off all that stuff, it now responds like it should and did, until the "upgrade."
