I'm not sure which Mac OSX version you have but, Apple has included
Automator since v10.4 (Tiger) which lets you easily build your own drag&drop
tools. It's a more user friendly way to build scripts without writing code.
1. Open Automator from Applications folder.
2. Click on 'Files & Folders' in left column under Library.
3. In second column double-click 'Set Application for Files'.
4. Pick the app you want to use.
5. Save as an 'Application' to make it a drag&drop tool.
You can also save it as a Plugin for Finder. Then the action will be
available as a Contextual Menu via right-click or ctrl-click on your files to
change.
Or, you can also save it as a Folder Action and apply it to a folder.
Then whenever files are put in that folder the action will run. You could then
just download those special text files right to that folder.
If you don't want to bother with Automator you can quickly set the
filetype on any file(s) in osX finder with Get Info. It works even if there is
no extension and you don't have to use the 'Change All' option either.
1. Select all your files (cmd-A)
2. Get Info (cmd-I) (or if less than 10 files use cmd-option-I)
3. Set 'Open With' pulldown to BBEdit.
