You aren't in a terminal at all.

As the warning at the top of new worksheets says, the worksheet is not a
terminal emulator. It's for entering non-interactive UNIX commands and
receiving what goes to standard output. Sometimes you can get something
approximating interactivity, but you shouldn't expect it to work.

In particular, because the applications you're running aren't going through a
terminal device, the system does not push partial lines (like prompts) through
to output. It waits till the end of the line to flush out the output, and
obviously prompt strings don't come with end-of-lines.
