Try doing Markup->Utilities->Optimize followed by the

I agree that this is a pain that it adds an extra link each
 time.

I always use "Markup/Tidy/Clean Document" on my HTML
documents, because I am not the best HTML coder in the world.

I had a look at "Markup/Utilities/Format" after reading your
above comments, and played around with it.

By default, it was already set to "Strict Hierarchical",
which is causing all of the blank lines in the first place.

I tried your method, but I found the results less than
stellar, because:

1. All closing anchors are place on a line all by their
little selves.

2. Other tags like <strong>, font tags, etc. -- yes, I am
old-school and haven't completely converted to CSS yet -- are
also forced onto separate lines for opening and closing tags.

3. There may be other things that I haven't noticed yet.

The only way I found to totally git rid of all of the blank
lines is by using "Markup/Utilities/Format/Plain", but that,
of course, moves everything over against the left margin;
which really isn't so bad, although it might take a bit of
getting used to.

Please give us back the "old way" folks. I see no advantage
in having a blank line between every <td> and every <table>.
I much prefer, and am now used to, everything neatly indented
by Tidy, without all of the extra blank lines.

Thanks so much!
