I've figured out how to get a new document to open in a project window. * Select a document in the 'Project' section of the lefthand pane. - this is the key to enabling the 'New Text Document' in the Action gear. * Choose 'New Text Document' from the Action gear. - you will be prompted for a document name. - remember to add the file extension. * The new document will appear in the 'Currently Open Documents' list. - the new document is not part of the project until you add it.
Things to keep in mind: * The new (empty) document is created on your disc in the last folder you opened/saved a document from/to. - you are not prompted for a directory to save the new document in. * You cannot rename this document in the 'Currently Open Documents' or the 'Recent Documents' lists. - this means you can't add an extension to the document name within BBEdit once you've created it. - you will need to make any name changes (or change its location) via the Finder. * You cannot create a new document in a brand new project window. - the only way to enable the 'New Text Document' in the Action gear is to select a document in the 'Project' section. - a new project does not have any documents in the 'Project' section and therefore you must add an existing document to the 'Project' section before you can add a new (empty) document to the project window.
