Option-S: ß.
Lower Case S gets you the ß. Upper Case S (ie: Option-Shift-s) gets you
Í (upper case I with an ´ accent - the same apparently as Option-e + I).
Thank you all! I just oversaw the ß in the keyboard viewer. But the
question of the OP (Nils) is still not clear: does he want to enter
German Umlauts with the American keyboard layout?
