It's not a font issue. It is an issue with setting a keybinding to a key on the german keyboard that is, for example ö. On a German keyboard there is an ö key to the left of the ‘L', you don’t have to type option-u+o to get it. Assigning that physical key to a keybinding is what people are reporting as not working. Notice that the ‘-‘ is now a ß?
