This could be wonderful if an option "Save every change" could

How do you define a “change”? Is it every keystroke? Every few
minutes?
That's the reason why I put for exemple nvALT. I really think that I
never saw this behaviour before (perhaps in the old Macintosh
scrapbook?).
May be the better way to describe it it's entry (clicking and
inserting a text).
I’m not following the comparison; nvALT is a ‘snippet keeper’ with
auto-save. Maybe I missed something else earlier in this thread to make
it relevant to BBEdit. From memory, nvALT doesn’t keep versions, just
saves the current snippet.
I wouldn’t want BBEdit saving the actual document automatically, so
that only leaves the auto-save ‘backup’ files. I checked the default
settings for auto-save (it’s an expert pref) and BBEdit will save the
document every minute. Granted I can type a lot in one minute, but no so
much that I need more frequent auto-saves.
What is the actual problem you want to solve with an option to “save
every change”? Maybe you could attach a script to menu items that
triggers a save for you.
