Case sensitive filesystem in macOS causes problems for several large

least some Adobe tools, case sensitive is a non-starter.
I'll take your word for it; but I've had zero problems with
case-sensitive filesystem for last 10(??) years (BBEdit was one of the
first apps to run perfectly on case-sensitive). So I have no hesitation
suggesting it. I also said that some people report problems with boot
disk, so I also suggested a second disk for dev files in that situation.
Using Adobe or Microsoft as excuse to ignore good dev practices makes me
feel ill.
That's not the case on macOS for most users.
If the core problem is issues due to difference in case sensitivity,
doing anything other than fixing the core problem is just bandaids. So I
disagree, I believe having a case-sensitive filesystem (whether boot
volume or not) is the correct solution for case sensitive problems.
Why do you not belie that is the case on macOS for most users?
Another option is to set apache (or whatever) to ignore case.
I thought the issue was manifesting when uploading files to remote
server. So changing apache configs may not be an option. Also, not all
servers are apache. Changing apache configs is a bandaid solution.
I'll rephrase my suggested solution; the closer you can make your dev
environment to the final production environment, the fewer 'surprises'
you will have when deploying. Case sensitivity in filenames is just one
issue that can manifest.
Granted, my requirements for smooth deployment may be greater than most
people; I use a VM on my dev machine which is nearly identical to the
production environment. So I can deploy to a near-identical staging
environment. If you can't fix your dev environment; then maybe a local
VM staging environment will reveal issues prior to deploying to
production.
Unless we can bring this convo back to BBEdit, we probably should move
this conversation off-list.
