Sorry, Iam still not getting your workflow. It sounds as though your issue is with how Photo Mechanic works, not with anything BBEdit related.

Hello Greg,

Thank you for your response.

I am an auto racing photographer and I believe this program would be very helpful. I am using a Mac OS Catalina  10.15.7 and installed the BBEdit software. Unfortunately there are no step-by-step instructions so I tried going on YouTube to see if I could bet help. The videos I found are telling me to develop a Code Replacement file in BBEdit which I have done and saved the list in a Code Replacement folder. Then it tells me to go back to Photo Mechanic and open the file. This is where I get lost. I am able to select the CR file and open the photo in Photo Mechanic. I also am able to type the \Car #\ and the drivers name shows. However, I can’t gat the new caption to show below the photo and I can’t find where the photo has been saved. What am I missing?

Thank you for your help.

Could you provide more details about your workflow? For example, what do you mean with your reference to "the i button"?

If you have a text file open in BBEdit, make changes to that file, and then save it, then your changes are preserved.

As for renaming photos, rather than do this in BBEdit, try selecting them in the Finder, and then calling up the contextual menu (AKA right click) and select "Rename …". Proceed as necessary.

Hello,
I am new to this BBEdit software. I have made a list of the race car numbers and drivers and I am able to rename the photo using the i button. However, when I Save and OK I have no idea where they are being saved? I also don't see that the caption below the photo has changed to the new caption. Isn't this supposed to happen? Lastly if I have 8 shots of an accident do I have to rename them individually or I can rename all of them at once? Please help and thank you.
