I said I would (eventually) make my talk notes available, but a few
people asked me to post the book list I gave, so here it is.

Some context for those of you who didn't attend the talk: I claimed that
every senior (that is "high" Sage Level IV) should own the following
books:

The C Programming Language; Kernighan & Ritchie
                OR the ANSI c89 standard

        POSIX.1 (System API)
        POSIX.2 (Shell and Utilities)

Programming Perl, 2nd or 3rd ed; Wall et al.

UNIX System Administration Handbook, 3rd ed; Nemeth et al.

The Design and Implementation of the 4.4 BSD UNIX Operating
        System; McKusick et al.
OR The Design of the UNIX Operating System; Bach

        by Richard Stevens:
Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment
            UNIX Network Programming
            TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1

Selected Papers in Network and System Administration; Anderson
        et al.

The Practice of System and Network Administration; Hogan &
        Limoncelli

        Supplemental reading:

Internetworking with TCP/IP, Volume 1, 2nd ed; Comer

                Computer Networks; Tanenbaum

The Practice of Programming; Kernighan & Pike

        Someone (Mark Lamourine?) also suggested:

Writing Secure Code; Howard & LeBlanc

Again, for those off you who weren't there last night: I'm not saying
these are the only books you should own, or that there aren't others
that cover the same topics, but I think these are the best out there.

I also talked last night about "being a programmer"; to see what's
actually on my bookshelf when I'm developing software:
