Somewhere in the past couple releases RedHat has taken to including a
packet filter configuration step during the normal OS install. It refers
to this as a "firewall" configuration and you can select none, meduim,
or high, or at least with 7.3 select from a list of services that should
be allowed/blocked.

I got bit by letting it set up a packet filter, forgetting about it, and
scratching my head over why I couldn't connect to the X server no matter
what I did to the server...
