Hi all.

I'd love to hear from folks who have a preference/recommenation
for network management software for our department LAN. This is
"for budgeting purposes", so money is no object, but price tags
are especially important. Technical details are welcome, but it
would suffice to say "For $NNN, product xyz is pretty decent."

I'm looking for a product with drill-down capability against a
small set of switches and firewalls. In our /22 LAN (four class
C's, say 1000 nodes) we have a couple of Cisco Pix's, and some
Allied Telesyn managed switches. We will add more third-party
(read cheap) managed switches real soon now, so the ability to
play nice with non-proprietary nodes is crucial.

It would be fun to deploy tkined and scotty or other free tools,
but this is just one hat, and I have to keep shoveling mud, too.
For now we hope to buy our way out of this un-met need.

Thanks in advance. Replies by email to me, unless it seems time
to hash over this topic again for the whole list.
