I have and would still use the WRT54G as a AP. It can be configured (with the factory default "boot loader"..err OS) to just pass the traffic to the LAN. There isn't much, if any, price difference. Both boxes run around $65-75. As far as I can tell major difference between the two is 5 Ethernet ports or 1. Getting the WRT54G to use as an AP would be good to just for the integrated 4 port switch/hub (1 less device/wall wart.) So or (c) Adding a WRT54G configured as an AP (using either OpenWRT or the factory software) to your current network.
