Unfortunately, this didn't help. It remains true that this card can
associate with the AP in roughly 2 out of every 10 attempts. When it
does work, it works beautifully, but that isn't very often. An
additional problem is that:
iwlist wlang scan
will occasionally produce hard lockups of the entire system---lockups
which unfortunately leave no trace that I can find in the logs (though
I have all the kernel debugging options set). It's also true that in
response to this command the card will frequently fail to detect the
access points that are within range.
So a couple of questions:
1. Are there more recent development versions of the driver that I
could try/test that might resolve the problem? At present, I have
the version bundled with the 2.7.17 kernel.
2. Might Ethereal really help debug the problem, as one poster
suggested?
3. I assume that the developers have access to this card? If not, I
would be happy to donate one. Once again, this is a Linksys PCMCIA
wireless adapter, model number WPC54GS ver. 2, marketed as the
Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster.
Thanks,
Jim
