given the lack of information from your end it is almost impossible to
figure out what is going wrong, so here are some suggestions which
might or might not work. you are on your own mess -- even if you
follow any of these :P

1. professional servers generally come with a preboot/installation
cd/DVD. The purpose of this disk is to prepare the server for any kind
of OS (windows/linux/SCO or anything), and ask for the installation
disk at a certain point (after it has placed the SCSI/SATA controllers
into proper places and memory. did your server come with something
similar? have you tried that? If not, this might be worth a try.

2. try to determine the FW version of the controller. If it is above
2.74, it has known issues with that version. Check out
http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1278543954145+28353475&threadId=1431782

3. If the above two fails, try putting in a SATA HDD and CD-ROM on the
MB controller (yes, completely ignoring the SCSI controller) and try
installing debian. See how it goes. And given it goes well, try to
update the kernel with necessary drivers and see if that helps the
matter.

please keep us updated on how it goes, and please be a bit more
verbose in reporting problems.

happy linuxing . . .
