Greetings,
I live in DC - about 7 blocks from The White House. I have a friend who works in an administrative position for the post office in DC who called and verified that priority mail that is labeled clearly on the outside what the contents are would not be irradiated at the post office in DC where I live. If it is addressed to a government office, it will be irradiated. An 800 number and a tracking number may be obtained for the priority mail item. She also said that irradiation would take extra time and that if a mailed priority item were to be irradiated that it would arrive a lot later than 48 hours.
I followed up on this with the postmaster of the post office where I receive mail in order to verify this information as I have been receiving shipments of organic aloe leaves from Florida. I also verified this information with the postmaster of the post office in Florida from where the aloe leaves are mailed.
