As far as the question of VB application, WINE is able to run VB application on Unix/Linux machines. You can use WINE for this purpose. For VB.Net there should be .net framewoek installed. For that you can try with Mono(http://go-mono.com). It supports VB.Net, but to a minimal extent. To run VB.Net applications on Unix without any problem, you have to look for Microsoft; When they are coming with .Net framework for Unix.
