----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on BDOTNET
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Absent_Minded_Aquarian Message 9 in Discussion Hi! First a correction: SSCOREE.DLL, MSCOREE.DLL are not the CLR runtime. They are, what is termed, as the Shim DLLs, who have the basic responsibility of locating the actual runtime, which resides in DLLs like MSCORWKS.DLL, MSCORSVR.DLL, etc. That said, Rotor doesn't have a VB.NET compiler. So, no, you cannot run VB.NET applications on the same. Mono, on the other hand, has decent VB.NET support. So, thats a good option for running VB.NET apps on Unix. But dont expect much. There are still limitations. Have a look here: http://www.go-mono.com/mbas.html However, there are hitches: like Mono doesnt have WinForms complete. Actually, there's not WinForms support per-se, but being implemented using two flavours: Win32 flavour, and GTK# (considered more native). Here's more on that: http://www.go-mono.com/winforms.html So, a lot actually goes into deciding if your VB.NET is ready for non-Win32 CLI implementations.
