Hi,

Thanks for your reply,

As my company is having only two site
offices, which approach is better to use VPN or to launch web server on
internet?

What are the approximate expenses for getting
Public IP and domain?

Regards,

Vaishali

Hi Vaishali

By Public ip and domain , wat hariharan
meant was that, getting a dedicated ip address and a domain name from the
    ISP(Internet Service provider).

If u are launching ur web server on
    the Internet, then

a) you should have a dedicated connection to the
    Internet.

b) Once you have that, the internet clients
need to have a mechanism that uniquely identifies ur machine
on the internet, which is wat the public ip is( for e.g.
    203.300.76.103)

c) Once you get the public ip address from the
ISP, your clients can access ur internet web site thru the
IP. But using IP addresses for access is not practical. So your
ISP also gives you a Domain name(for e.g. www.sr.com) which is mapped to the afore
mentioned ip
    address.

So when ur client wants to access
    the site,

a) he types in the url address(www.sr.com) mentioned above in
    his browser.

b) The url is mapped to the ip(203.300.76.103)
thru the DNS servers that ISPs maintain. So the url name is resolved
    to the ip address

c) as the ip address itself is unique,
the reuqest reaches ur webserver and the page is served

These are the basics as such. From a
Developer/Architect point of view, u dont need to worry bout these
details. If u want to launch ur web server on the
internet, u just need to contact ur ISP and they do the rest for
u(thanx to the efficiency of private ISPs :) ).

hope this helps

regards,

sr
