Hi 1) As my company is having only two site offices, which approach is better to
use VPN or to launch web server on internet? Yours is basically a requirement where
you have a application which caters to the needs of a single organisation, which is
distributed across locations. In this case Internet based web server will be a
overkill( unless u want to fully learn and understand how to set up one :) ). VPN
caters exactly to this requirement only and would strongly recommend the same
2) What are the approximate expenses for getting Public IP and domain? This is totally
dependent on a) the ISP b) the type of access u go for c) the bandwidth that you need
4) the duration of the connection( i believe they are cheaper for long-term
connections). Compared to wat such connections cost some 5~7 yrs ago( still remember
that VSNL charged approx 6 lacs for a <duh>9.6kbps</duh> leased line in mid 90s ),
nowadays the rates are quite competetive. But i think for ur requirement Internet
based connections dont really make sense. Instead you can use VPN based connectivity
and also look ionto the features like asyn communications model, MSMQ queueing etc for
asynchronous communications(if need be) regards, sr
