COMPUTE normally allows you to see the detail rows and then the final total. In your 
case, you had to group the results based on some criteria and then also provide the 
grand total. Thus, if you try some query like:   SELECT
   type, TotalPrice=SUM(price), TotalAdvance=SUM(advance)
   FROM titles GROUP BY type
COMPUTE SUM(price), SUM(advance)   It would not work, since price and advance columns 
do not exist anymore. Rather, the best way out is to generate an intermediate table 
and then build the COMPUTE on top of that (which is what my posted query does). From a 
performance angle, you would not see any issues too. Not sure if there is any other 
way currently... Will post if I think of another solution...   HTH, Srinivas Sampath
