hi,

In oracle ,I have the ROWID , to identify a record in the table along with
primary key.is there any similar kind of functionality in sql sever to uniquely
identify a record in the table along with the primary key?one solution I could
find is the adding a new IDENTITY column in Sql Server table ,this is
not feasible for us because we have to change the Production database,is there
any other solution for this in SQL Server?

My requirement is
when ever record inserted / updated / delete on the sql server table I
have to keep track of this.I am trying to track the changes in another
table with a trigger on the source table where I can put the
recordNo and the Table Name in the tracking table.but the issue comes when
identifying the inserted value(in this case I have to write separate
trigger for each table to get the primarykey value of the table) .I am
looking at generic solution for all tables.

Regards
-Srini
