  Hi..Arun,
  Spark

  Standard is
nothing but wide range (Majority) of user's adaptability, acceptability of
  particular product.

  Let's take
a example, Whenever u say I use toothpaste to brush my teeth, u think
for colgate, pepsodent, vicco etc but it depends upon user's adaptability
& acceptability for colgate, pepsodent etc as product which again depends
much on lot of other factors. So, .Net & J2EE are products ( Development
  platform) but not standards.

  If u
say desktop application development u think MS coz almost
90% use MS product for that, so standard comes into
picture here it doesn't matter whether they use VB or
  VB.Net.

  In the end
u can say XML as standards.

  Hope u guys
will understand what I tried to tell here.

  Cheers!!!!!
Nave
