----------------------------------------------------------- From: SriSamp Message 2 in Discussion SQL Sever supports the concepts of nested transactions. This means that you can start a BEGIN TRAN in your code and then call an SP. The SP by itself can do a BEGIN TRAN. If the SP then commits the transaction, the transaction is not committed immediately, rather SQL Server just remembers that a commit has happened and then updates the @@TRANCOUNT global variable. Only when the calling code issues a COMMIT, is the transaction committed. Somewhere inbetween, if you issue a ROLLBACK, the entire transaction will be immediately rolled back, unless you use save points in your code. Save points can let you selectively rollback or commit portions of your code.
