I have been using kmymoney for as long as I can remember. There's a lot
about it I like, and a lot I don't.

I really like everything I read about beancount. And fava seems like an
excellent interface.

Here's my first question (of possibly many): how can either bean-web or
fava display the running balance. I'm used to seeing the running balance
for an account for every transaction. I auto generate all of my expected
income, bills and estimated misc expenses a few months into the future, to
see how that balance changes. I don't see any (obvious) way to see what
the running balance is on any given line.

Also, what is the point of the explicit "balance" lines? E.g.
2015-01-26 balance Assets:US:BofA:Checking 3254.98 USD
