Hi all,
i'm currently (re)organizing my music collection and beets was
recommended all around ;)
i have a working beets setup here on an Desktop PC with archlinux.
Now, before moving files to the archive for real i'd really like to
learn from ppl who did this before.
the archive will be /external-usb/archive
~1k albums in flac and 1k asorted files,
you know: these "wonder~l.song-artist.unkown(RMXRemix).mp3"... :)
current structure is
/path/to/music/A-C, /path/to/music/D-F, ..., /path/to/music/X-Z
/path/to/music/Compilations/$genres
/path/to/music/singles (<--- single mp3 files go here)
/path/to/music/audiobooks
Question 1)
Any suggestion on an improved folder structure?
I know that there a always personal preferences, but i'd like to know
how others with a decent big collection.
I just need some input to make an educated decision for setting up a
bullet proof structure for my music collection
as you note, personal preference. fwiw this is my setup, I have
roughly 2k albums and 15k tracks. I did something like this:
paths:
default:
%asciify{%lower{$path_genre}}/%asciify{%lower{$path_letter}}/%asciify{%lower{$albumartist_sort}}/${path_year}-%asciify{%lower{$album}}/${track}-%asciify{%lower{$title}}
comp:
%asciify{%lower{$path_genre}}/v/various_artists/%asciify{%lower{$albumartist_sort}}/${path_year}-%asciify{%lower{$album}}/${track}-%asciify{%lower{$title}}
singleton:
%asciify{%lower{$path_genre}}/%asciify{%lower{$path_letter}}/%asciify{%lower{$albumartist_sort}}/non-album/${track}-%asciify{%lower{$title}}
some of this might require some explanation ...
path_genre is a variable so I could combine some genres (for example
all different 'metal' genres go in one 'metal' folder, 'opera' and
'classical' both end up in 'classical', etc)
path_letter extracts the first letter of the artist, unless the artist
name is numerical in which case it ends up in a '0-9' folder, too few
of them to make a folder for each number.
hope this helps,
.jh
