I have a "master" folder, with subfolders for FLAC (the majority of my
music) and mp3 (the ones I don't have in FLAC format). That is what I
use for home listening, and that is what beets manages.
I use mp3fs to produce a separate mp3 clone of the master collection for
use on portable devices and in the car.
