Be safe Jeff. Looks like the whole mid-Atlantic region is getting hit
hard with that storm.

I tried to grab one of ours and test this morning, but the nor'easter
thats showering us right now isn't the best for testing.

I should clarify that I was referring to Curve 8330's on VZW. I'm not
aware of Verizon unlocking the GPS on the Curve 8330. It certainly
isn't working on Google Maps for anyone I know that has a VZW Curve 8330
with the latest OS. I have a Curve 8330 on Verizon with the latest OS
and I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Google Maps,
version 3.2.1, and the GPS still doesn't work...only BB Maps.

I had a curve back in December and the GPS worked fine with Google maps
with the gps. But after getting a new curve, RIP, now it does not lock a
signal on google or bb maps. I called Verizon to see what happened and
they told me that Verizon gps for 8330 never worked, which was wrong. So
does the gps for the curve still works or is it just this phone. I have
had several users the same way.

You may want to try that again - VZW dropped the GPS lock a while back.
I know for a fact that Google Maps works with device GPS with the Curve,
Storm, Storm2, and Tour. I'm pretty sure it also worked with the 8830.

We allow Google Maps and the GMail app for our Sprint users. Verizon
users are stuck with BB Maps thanks to the VZW GPS lockdown, although
Google Maps will use cell towers (in the absence of GPS) to triangulate
your approximate location.

Most of the Google Apps are web-based and not native apps by themselves,
so I don't see any real security risk in allowing it.

Subject: [Bes-admins] Google Mobile App

All,

We have a user connected to our BES that would like to use this software
(Google Mobile Application) on their device. This application requires
certain permissions to be changed on the device, that we currently do
not allow.

Is anyone else allowing this application? And if so, what security risks
are involved?

Thanks

Kevin
