Since you are running VMWare, You can leverage the new BES DB Trasporter Utility. If you have another server to spare:
1) Build new VMWare BES Server with proper C and D Drive partition 2) Contact RIM for Temporary SRP for upgrade 3) Once your new BES 5.0 is built, use the Transporter Utility to move users from 4.1 to 5.0, this will be a seamless transition. 4) You can leave 4.1 and 5.0 running until everything works as expected...then you can decomission 4.1 Regards, Dzung ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Thursday, January 14, 2010 2:52 PM To: A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc. Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] BPS -> BES upgrade tips You have your trade up key already I take it for BPS? BES 4 - BES 5 is free, BPS - BES 5 requires buying a license ________________________________ From: "Sobey, Richard A" <[email protected]> To: "A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc." <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, January 14, 2010 2:43:54 PM Subject: Re: [Bes-admins] BPS -> BES upgrade tips Not much to add except to take advantage of the VM and take a snapshot before you do the upgrade. You don't say where your database is stored but even so, you will be looking at a DB restore only if things go a bit wrong. Good luck :) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>] On Behalf Of Art Alexion Sent: 14 January 2010 18:53 To: A list for BES Admin's to discuss issues, etc. Subject: [Bes-admins] BPS -> BES upgrade tips Within the next week I plan to upgrade our current BPS 4.1 to BES 5.0. This is my first contact with BES as opposed to BPS. I understand that this is an in-place upgrade, and I don't have to create a new BES install. BES is currently installed on Win2003 server which is running as a virtual machine. It has ~20 GB C: drive and the OS and BPS are taking up just a bit less than 8 GB. I have links to documentation, but I am looking for tips, not instructions or steps. Stuff that may be hidden or non-existent in the documentation that any of you found through experience. I guess my first question is going to be whether 20 GB is big enough, probably ~50-60 users? It would be easier to add storage by adding a D: drive rather than expanding the C: drive. Can I move parts of BES to D:? Thanks for any suggestions. -- Art Alexion MIS/Central Office Support Resources for Human Development _______________________________________________ Bes-Admins mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.dataoutages.com/mailman/listinfo/bes-admins http://www.dataoutages.com http://www.dataoutagenews.com RSS Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Bes-admins --------------------------------- _______________________________________________ Bes-Admins mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.dataoutages.com/mailman/listinfo/bes-admins http://www.dataoutages.com http://www.dataoutagenews.com RSS Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Bes-admins --------------------------------- The information contained in this message is intended only for the personal and confidential use of the recipient(s) named above.
