It's not. BESX uses DM or a form of DM to activate the blackberry. It should work just fine. When talking to my partner rep at RIM they stated you don't need BES, so you should have no problems on Verizon, unless they find a way to block it, which is typical on their parts of trying to get more money out of you. Someone should give it a try and report back, a test never hurts to prove a theory.
