Try restarting Dispatcher service; we have this problem intermittently on our 4.1 and 5.0 servers whenever GC/DCs are rebooted. Basically the BES doesn't reconnect to the DC correctly; thwn you try to send a message, it does a global catalog lookup to validate your account, and that is what is faililng and causing the red x.
