It can slow the device down, but the other big thing to keep in mind is the device password. With content protection on, you can only change the device password from BES if the unit is on 4.3 or higher, and the BES on 4.1SP5 or higher. Also, if the contacts are protected, names won't appear when a call comes in with the device locked.
