Hi Tom, This may be far-fetched but could you check the Event Log for strange errors? Also, could you try to log on as another user and try to reproduce the problem?
I have had quite strange errors in Windows 7 with a couple of programs because the Windows user profile was corrupted. No error messages - the programs just died. With another user logged on everything was ok. I recreated my profile and the problem went away. This has happened two times in two years.
