Apologies if the issues/niggles listed below have already been
covered. I've hardly used the 701 versions preferring to use the j6
paradigm (for me) of terminal window plus one or more edit windows.
I've just done an install 'qtide', at around 10:15 pm, GMT.
JVERSION
Engine: j701/2011-01-10/11:25
Library: 8.01.008
Qt IDE: 1.0.3
Platform: Win 32 <<< windows 7
Installer: j801 beta install
InstallPath: d:/j801
0) The old alt-f-r is replaced by ctrl-g, but doesn't act quite the
same. Focus is on the open button, though no file is highlighted,
which is ok.
I can select a file with the mouse or scroll to it, but double-clicking
does not work, nor does Enter. I find I need to press the open button.
1) I am used to using alt-r-w to run a script; it is useful for load
'....' to be displayed in the ijx window.
The j8 equivalent seems to be ctrl-l, but it does not display load
'...' in the terminal window.
1a) It is not clear whether the file is saved with ctr-l.
2) I'm using a laptop with a fairly small screen as my eyes aren't too
good, so I would like Courier New Bold. I've been trying for several
weeks to preset the font to bold with no success. Shouldn't
FontStyle=bold work in qtide.cfg? When I tried FontFamily=Courier New
Bold, it _was_ bold, but it was some generic MS rubbish, not Courier.
3) When I run an expression which takes a considerable time, very often
the case with the Project Euler problems which I persist in attempting,
the cursor stays at the right-hand end of the expression rather than
jumping to the next line as with J6.
This is disconcerting rather than crucial.
4) In some very long-winded verbs it is very helpful to use smoutput to
report the achievement of stages in the process. I had got used to
following each smoutput, or group of such with
wd'msgs'
- otherwise the later smoutputs tend not to appear until the whole
process has completed which defeats the object of these debug statements.
Last time I tried this device under J8 Qtide it seemed that while
wd'msgs' didn't produce any error, it was not forcing real-time
output; the smoutputs were not produced until completion. I apologise
if wd 'msgs' now works; it isn't convenient to retest this right now.
5) I think someone else mentioned this recently: again, in J6, I'm
often use ctrl-k to fire up the debug window. I don't know how to do
this in J8/qtide.
6) I don't like the current colours and don't know how to change them.
They're probably documented somewhere...
I'll stop there, although there are probably some other problems which
I've overlooked.
Despite these grumbles, it's very promising, though I'm still using J6
for normal work.
Thanks to all
Mike
