In an environment where you interact with a computer all day long, you need
that kind of setup still.

That being said, most of my work as developer is developing...
complex, highly interactive web based apps. But it's so hacky. Desktop apps
are so much simpler/quicker to write. I almost wish the web based app craze
would fade away, but I doubt it would. I am mostly in the back end but I do
plenty of front end too - e.g. in the past I ported a big part of YUI to
jQuery for an internal project.
