By demanding Android 4.2 you are assuring better machines. That J could run in less would be a bonus but you would not need to support them.
It is similar to what JHS is doing by demanding HTML5 even if some of it will run in former versions. It will be easier to use the new features if you are not trying to support old types or versions. 4.2+ as base is not likely to lose any important customers. J is a quality product so it should demand quality machines. I know a lttle bit more about Android now after trying out a few and I might not have bought some of the cheaper. I like to be able to divide applications on several machines and getting them at a low cost is fine but I do not want to lose out on functionality.
