Yes, I'm referring to the Android back button.  There are several screens
where it doesn't work.  For example, Help > Release Notes.  It also doesn't
work on the initial session screen.

I use the Hacker's Keyboard which gives me full access to Ctrl and
direction arrows.  It turns out most apps recognize all of the widely used
shortcuts for marking, copying and pasting text.  This includes the
previous version of J for Android.
