Because that's where it's always been! I had thought that this was
tolerated despite not being preferred. Same as I keep ws and myws
folders under dyalog apl despite that not being their recommendation.

To my horror, I saw all user802 files and folders deleted. Luckily I do have a
back-up disk which is a few weeks old, but I've lost all recent stuff.
Luckily (!?) I was smart enough to copy addons and profile....ijs to another
area, to save time reinstating them later.
I thought (obviously wrongly) that uninstalls usually left user-defined files
and folders untouched.
It might be worth warning other users of this feature.
Now to see what goes wrong with install...
