I don't doubt that with a good teacher who want to teach something will be able to succeed. There are difficulties when teachers and parents are confronted with ideas and they charge ahead with them and the teachers or parents seem unable to keep up with them. My guess is that students would thrive in an environment where each had J available and they could explore it together. The teachers however have lots of classes, student, homework to check and these days seem to be available all the time on the web. They will not have the same time to explore and move forward with the language. They are working toward "the testing programs" that will assess their students and their progress as well. It creates potential for insecurity. It a program is big and supported at a higher level it may have a chance. Otherwise something like facebook may turn the tide. I vacillate between optimism and pessimism. So much for philosophy.... Linda

For that matter, I think youngsters can understand quantum mechanics if it's presented to them the right way, and if we do not ask too much from them. Just keep it practical (for example: talk about the rainbow effect of thin oil on water - and show it to them - and leave development of more cerebral topics for later).
