Ian,
I did try j64-803 last year and found it didn't run for me. Just now
I replaced the old 803 directory with a new j64-803 download. When I
try to run j64-803/bin/jconsole I get this result:
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libedit.3.dylib
Referenced from: /Users/jph/j64-803/bin/jconsole
Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap
This is what I found before. Is this missing library problem fixable?

I too have reasons for keeping my iMac on OSX 10.6.8. I keep on coming

But I've been running j64-803 (extensively, but only jqt) under OSX
10.6.8. No apparent problems.
But the last j64-804 beta I tried did not run. I posted something
about this earlier this year, and tried to get it working by supplying
absent dylibs which turn up in the error messages in Console. I gave
up when Bill assured me this would not work (as he has done again on
this thread).
@Patrick - Why j64-803 jqt works for me and not you I daren't
conjecture. I suggest keep trying.

is no longer well supported, so until I get a new MacBook Pro, I
have a Mac-mini running 10.10.4 - sharing my PC's monitor - for
packages that won't run under 10.6.8, such as j64-804). But I do
remember being told by those who know that it just was not possible
to run j 803 or later under 10.6.8.

The documentation indicates that 804 will run on OS 10.6.8.
This appears to be an error. Although Apple claims to have provided libc++
et.al in Xcode 4.2 (the latest version on Snow Leopard), it does not
appear
to be so.
I've tried to find versions of libc++.1.dylib & libc++.abi.dylib that work
on 10.6.8 or explicit instructions to build them in Xcode 4.2 - but have
come up empty.
Does anyone have copies or know how to create them?
