Thanks for the report. I'm astonished that your Vista system required the update. This update was out for years before Vista was released. Obviously I have never seen a virgin Vista system and have only worked with ones that had extra stuff installed that had already dragged along the vcredist SP.

I will update the docs to reflect that Vista may also requires the SP.

Nice to hear you were OK with how the installer required the SP.

"The new J32 binaries require
  "Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)"
to be installed on XP. "
Vista required this as well.

The clipboard part worked very well.

Everything looking very good so far.

I have tested some of my usual test objects.

I have only installed it on my Vista machine so far.
The Linux machines and XP machines will have to wait a bit.

By the way JAL worked without any needed actions and it looks good.

Congratulations on a job well done!

I am looking forward testing following new feature!

"USB Memory Stick SystemA standard install with everything, including user
and temp folders, in the J directory can be moved to a USB memory stick. The
memory stick is then a complete and portable J system. "

J602 betas are available.

This message to programming starts the ball rolling. Future discussion
should be in the beta forum.

We encourage you to take an early look at J602 and appreciate your efforts
in tracking down bugs, sorting out rough edges, and ensuring that the
final
release is a good as can be.

See http://www.jsoftware.com/beta.htm for installer downloads.

See Help|Release Highlights for an overview of what's new.

See Help|User Manual|J602 Install for information on the new Windows and
Unix installers.

J64 (win64 and linux64) will be available in a few days. PocketPC won't be
available until later.

The Windows release is for Vista and XP.

Unix users: you should be able to just download and run the installer.
Please report problems with the download or if a chmod +x is required.

Windows XP users: please report whether you required the service pack
discussed below or if there were any related problems.

The Windows binaries are built with a new MS development system. The
previous development system was nearly 10 years old and Vista made this a
good time to change. The new J32 binaries require
   "Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)"
to be installed on XP. Some XP systems will already have this installed.
If
not, the J602 installer tells you what steps are required. Unfortunately
some XP systems have incorrect versions of this Service Pack and the J
installer can't detect this and the result is the install completes but
j.exe won't start. In that event go to www.microsoft.com and get and
install
the latest version.
