I just noticed that the "dir" function seems to return a text matrix when called from the browser front-end instead of the (more useful) boxed output when I invoke it directly from within the J7.01 console.
Investigating the function superficially, I see that the format of the output is controlled by an optional left argument - something I never knew. However, I don't see what left argument gives me a result in the same format - five columns - as the default (elided left argument) in console mode. Now that I look more closely at the definition in the two environments, I see that the console "dir" is simply "1!:0@<" but in the browser it's a fairly long, explicit verb.
