Yes both versions have the same J engine, so I imagine the jconsole (and 
therefore emacs) experience will be similar, but the Gtk IDE beta that Chris 
has been working on  http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/System/Beta/Gtk%20IDE has 
an updated base library that will more closely resemble the finished J7 
ecosystem. 
The command line version of the Package Manager is working so it is possible to 
download JAL addons that have been released for J701.
